The most picturesque village in the Western
Cape Winelands, Franshhoek retains the charm of its French Huguenot
heritage and history which dates back to 1688. Indeed the village
trades on the French flair to attract tourists to the region, with
their street cafes and bistros. Two of the top restaurants in the
whole country are to be found in this comparatively small area.
The best-known wine estates along the Franschoek wine route include Boschendal, La Motte, L'Ormarins and Dieu Donné.
The main street of the village is peppered with great little boutiques,
gift shops and galleries which are ideal for a few hours' browsing
and buying in this delightful part of the world.
