With
entries already closed to local participants, the 2007 Cape Argus
Pick ‘n Pay Cycle Tour looks set to be yet another huge success
– for the organizers, the participators and the whole city of
Cape Town.
This annual event began back in 1978 with a mere 525 entrants,
446 of whom finished the 104 km course. Today – almost 3 decades
on, the event is a world-class event which draws 35 000 entrants
each year from around the world.
The most notable aspect of the race is the exceptional natural
beauty through which the course winds, twists, turns and climbs
– the pace is intense and the going is tough but the scenery
goes a long way to taking your mind off the agony of muscle cramps
and tendon strains.
Chapman’s Peak is perhaps the most awe-inspiring part of
the route, from a scenic point of view. Nowhere else in the world
will you find views to rival those of this road which winds along
the mountain overlooking eternal blue seas stretching as far as
the eye can see.
In 2007 the Cape Argus Pick ‘n Pay Cycle Tour will celebrate
its 30th Birthday, so this is a great event to participate in as
the cyclists play a role in the unfolding history of this world-renowned
and much loved event.
International participants may still enter the upcoming Cycle Tour.

The big day for the main event of the 2007 Cape Argus Pick ‘n
Pay Cycle Tour is Sunday, 11 March 2007.
The preceding week is full of other great events to ensure participants
and their families and friends have plenty to keep them busy in
the lead-up to Sunday’s race.
For example there is a Tricycle Tour on 3 March for toddlers,
and older children can take part in the Junior Tour on the same
day. A Mountain Bike Challenge is lined up for the adventurous out
at the beautiful wine farm of Boschendal.
Registration takes place on 7. 8 and 9 March so be sure to make
space in your schedule for that!
For details check out the official website.
It is imperative that you remember to book accommodation and car
hire well in advance as Cape Town is full to the rafters during
this time. Follow our links to Cape Town Accommodation and Cape
Town Car Hire for further assistance in this regard.
The whole of Cape Town celebrates this great event each year and
local businesses welcome the tourists as warmly as the beaches and
mountains. Why not follow the example of many participants and stay
for an extra week to relax and enjoy all the energy and beauty of
the city once the race day is behind you? Unwind, soak up the autumn
sun, take in a massage or two and let yourself totally let go after
giving all you’ve got on the big day.
