Where will the world cup take place?
These teams will play numerous games at a variety of stadiums throughout South Africa. These include:
Five new stadiums are being built in South Africa in preparation for the World Cup; three as venues for matches and two as practice venues. Five of the existing stadiums are being upgraded.
Zukami the 2010 mascot.
South Africa has produced a new mascot for the 2010 Soccer World Cup. Zakumi is a yellow, spotted leopard with bright green, wavy hair. His name consists of "ZA", the abbreviation for South Africa, and "kumi" which means ten in a number of African languages. Zakumi is a fun-loving party animal who plans to inject life and fun into the football games. You will see him dancing around the football pitch, entertaining children and show visitors to South Africa the warmth and vibrancy of this magnificent country. And if you see him fall asleep on the sidelines during a game don't worry. He's just catching a quick powernap to recharge his energy levels, just like the leopards on the African plains do.
