View photos and learn more about overnight Western Cape safaris

To find an overnight safari with this amount of natural history is rare. Five generations ago families settled in the Eastern Cape to farm sheep and cattle on the wild and often hostile frontier of the Zuurveld.
Today the decedents still live here in what is known as Frontier Country. They have recreated a true wildlife experience to capture your imagination, refresh your soul and conserve our natural heritage.
The hills and valleys tell silently of old conflicts and the bush still holds its secrets, but now the haunting cry of the fish eagle echoes from the rugged krantzes and the veld grass whispers with the passing of peaceful game, where you too can return to nature. Come and spend an overnight safari here, in the Amakhala Game Reserve.

Every traveller wishes for accommodation which relaxes and rejuvenates them. This lodge, surrounded by indigenous fauna and flora, offers guests plunge pools, private viewing decks and luxurious accommodation for their overnight safari stay. This unforgettable, romantic lodge awaits you in the pristine African bush.

The two homes, Bottom house and Top house are both elegantly designed in the Settler tradition with wooden floors and iron-work beds. Hospitality abounds in these homes, with the option of an Edwardian cottage or Settler farmhouse. All have en-suite rooms and access to the bright blue swimming pool for hot summer days.

Bill Henry and his wife Rose accommodate you in the homestead that has been in their family since the very beginning. The manor house offers four-star accommodation in the form of five en-suite bedrooms and various lounges and entertainment areas. The indigenous gardens offer a change of pace after your safari is complete.

In the second home on the Leeuwenbosch farm is Shearer’s Lodge, historically used by the wool shearers. In 1996 the lodge was renovated into four suites including one spectacular honeymoon suite, all having en-suite bathrooms. The old stables were reconstructed into an intimate chapel, making the lodge an excellent wedding venue.

Finish your safari day with a dinner at our traditional boma and take your rest in the simply designed, military-campaign style tents, flanked by the bush. Hark back to a bygone era with this overnight safari accommodation.

These historic buildings once provided rest and safe haven for the mail wagon passengers. Now stylishly re-decorated, the four comfortable en-suite bedrooms are positioned in the tranquil working farmyard and completely separate from the main homesteads to ensure our guests' peace and privacy on their overnight safari.

The rhythm of Africa entices you into this luxury lodge as you spend your overnight safari evening in any one of the eleven suites on offer. Tastefully decorated in the African theme, the individual huts offer private plunge pools and luxurious open en-suite bathrooms. Unique game viewing opportunities exist from your private viewing deck.

Six stone and thatch cottages offer complete privacy for unique wildlife-watching opportunities. Herds of elephant are commonly seen ambling across the plains in front of the lodge. A traditional boma offers socialising and dining prospects at the day’s end. Chat about the animals you have seen or simply take in the sounds of the hyenas crying at night.

This one of a kind lodge has ten spacious thatched suites which meander along the Bushman’s River banks. The tranquillity of each suite mirrors the ancient river. A private deck enables you to see animals drinking and bathing in the soft sunshine. Each suite has a king size or twin beds. A luxurious en-suite bathroom completes the room.
