Aquila is a safari lodge with a difference: when you book a stay here you are helping the lodge to inform, educate and empower the local community by strengthening the nearby town of Touwsriver. Recycling efforts, winter soup kitchens and veterinary services are all supplied by Aquila to the town.

Aquila is named after the rare and endangered Black Eagle which thrives in the area and is situated on the national flower route. This game reserve lodge has several thousands of hectares of mountain Proteas and is situated in three separate biomes: Fynbos, Renosterveldt and succulent Karoo.

From July through to September the reserve displays a splendid Technicolor carpet of Karoo flowers. For the first time in 250 years, the Western Cape inhabitants can benefit from the natural and original animals that used to roam freely around this area of South Africa.

The Cheetah rehabilitation centre offers informative and moving lectures on the plight of these endangered big cats and an opportunity to help the centre in its on-going programme.
