Can you imagine a more idyllic way to spend the day than whale watching from the saddle of a horse while riding along the stunning Grotto Beach in the Hermanus area of the Western Cape?
Explore 18 km of pristine beach, rich with bird life that will intrigue nature lovers in between whale spotting. Bird watchers will enjoy the antics of the endangered Oyster Catcher, tiny Strandloper, cheeky gulls and even hunting falcons.
You may also see sleek, fat seals sunning their glossy selves as they regularly do along this coastline.
Depending on your personal schedule, choose a one or two day trail.
If you decide to overnight you’ll have the additional pleasure of accommodation a stone’s throw from the ocean, for maximum whale-viewing opportunities.
The 2-day trail also allows time for an exciting exploration of the caves at De Kelders – bring good shoes, swimming gear and snorkels! Feeling brave? In addition to caving and horse riding you’ll have the chance to try cliff jumping nearby.
After a hard day’s riding and exploring, enjoy a refreshing swim at the freshwater spring on the beach, right below the overnight accommodation. |
