With its mountains, ravines, valleys and plateaus Cape Town (and the rest of South Africa) is a magnificent hiking destination. There are many short, easy walks for those people who simply want some fresh air, and longer hikes over perilous terrain for those who like an adventure. If it’s the former that you are interested in then a hike on Table Mountain, at Kirstenbosch or at Silvermine will suit you, and does not require a guide.

If, however, you prefer the more arduous version then book a multi-day hiking tour where a guide will have you walking, scrambling, leaping and, of course, panting. The day may start out sunny, but prepared to walk in the wind, rain, and even hail and snow for a hike that challenges the mind as well as the body.
