Learn how to fish from real fishermen - those who make a living by catching Cape fish. Kalk Bay is a picturesque but thriving fishing harbour where members of the local fishing community are out daily in their traditional fishing boats earning their living.
The Tour
This memorable day starts at 4:30am when you are met by your friendly guide at Kalk Bay harbour. Kalk Bay is the oldest traditional hand line fishing Harbour in South Africa.
You will have the privilege of joining local fishermen as they head out to deep water. The fishermen will teach you how to catch fish with a handline, using techniques passed down through many generations.
While out you will have the opportunity to observe seals, dolphins, Great White Sharks and in season Southern Right Whales in their natural habitat. These giants come to calve in False Bay between June and October each year.
Back in Kalk Bay you will head into the village to enjoy eating the fish you just helped to catch, which will be prepared at a local restaurant in a traditional South African style.
After lunch, you can head on back to your accommodation full of fish and happy memories!
