The Bushmen Experience, Darling and West Coast tour represents a tangible celebration of the history and future of Southern Africa's First People and takes place at a sanctuary that has been established to safeguard this ancient hunter-gathering people and their unique culture.

The tour includes:

  • Exploration of the at !Khwa ttu Centre that serves as the San people's workplace and cultural education centre.
  • A three hour-long drive on an open tractor and trailer during which time accredited San trackers will point out local fynbos, birdlife and game. This is followed by an easy nature walk that informs participants about their tracking skills, hunting methods and medicinal plant knowledge.
  • A twenty minute film about San rock art that illuminates the San's belief and customs of about 30 000 years ago.

  • Lunch and refreshments at a renovated West Coast farmhouse. After lunch we peruse the adjacent craft shop where visitors can purchase San artworks that were made using traditional methods and tools.
  • A trip to Darling where we visit Evita se Perron and Boerassic Park for a tongue in the cheek look at Afrikaans history, courtesy of Peter Dirk Uys (a local satirist also known by his alias, Evita Bezuidenhout).
  • Then we return to Cape Town via Blouberg beach, taking in lovely views of the Mother City and her Mountain.
