Hermanus Whale Watching Tour
In the winter and spring of each year the Western Cape is blessed by the arrival of the Southern Right Whales that come into our waters to calve.
The site of a whale leaping out of the water and creating an enormous spray as it lands back in the waves, or a mom and baby whale pair waving their tales lazily in the sunlight, is truly magical to behold.
The Tour
Hermanus is renowned as one of the best land-based whale viewing spots in the world. A day trip out to the charming town includes many highlights en route.
You will be transported in a luxury, air-conditioned vehicle out of Cape Town and into the Overberg region via spectacular Sir Lowry’s Pass which offers stunning views of False Bay.
We stop off at a road-side farm stall where you can purchase local produce such as preserves, jams and pastries and enjoy a cup of tea or coffee before we continue on the journey.
En route you may enjoy informal wine tasting.
On arrival at Hermanus, you will not only be able to view the ocean’s gentle giants rolling lazily in the bay from the Cliff Path, but also, weather permitting, enjoy an exciting and educational boat trip that will bring you even nearer to the creatures.
Next we take you on a scenic drive along The Rotary Drive, high up over Hermanus. From here you’ll be able to take wonderful photographs of Walker Bay.
When you have had your fill of whale watching, and experienced the friendly sound of the Whale Crier’s kelp horn which he blows whenever a whale is spotted off shore, we leave the town and head back towards Cape Town along an unforgettable coastal drive.
A last stop is made at the gorgeous Harold Porter National Botanical Gardens in Betty’s Bay where you can stroll along the beautiful paths, enjoying sea and mountain views, indigenous flora and perhaps spy some birds, giant tortoises and even baboons on the way. |
