Dyer Island offers the most extensive whale watching opportunities in Gansbaai. Witness these massive yet elegant mammals in their natural surroundings. The tail to end all tales awaits you in the center of the bay, just under the surface of the water. If the season is right, see the whales breaching with their young. Catch a glimpse of the whale's intelligent eyes watching you and have your worldly outlook changed forever.

The Tour
Each day, when the season is right (between July and December), the whale-watching tour launches quietly and safely into the harbour to start the tour. We head out into the open ocean. From here we linger a while with the elegant creatures as they slide through the water in front of us. After watching our fill of the different whales existent in the ocean, we glide through the aptly named Shark Alley to spot the apex predator of the oceans, the Great White Shark. Occasionally we bump into the presence of the humpbacked whales, where the awesome nature of the beasts magnifies the smallness of our boat.

Our tour to Dyer Island and back ensures that the main focus of the whale watching experience is on conservation. Responsible tourism is the only way to successfully protect the animals while offering tourists the chance to witness Mother Nature in all her glory.

After about two and a half hours out on the open ocean, we return to the Gansbaai harbour. Your camera will be full of pictures and your head full of memories. You can opt to stop at the restaurant for a hearty lunch and a warm cup of coffee or browse through the curio shop for that perfect reminder of your boat-based whale watching tour.
