It offers some stunning views over the False Bay region and, upon entering the other side of the pass, the Elgin Valley. We then continue on to Franschoek Pass, built along the tracks formed by herds of game in ancient times. This pass was once known as Olifantspad (or, Elephant's path). Viljoen's Pass takes you through a spectacular route to the Threewaterskloof Dam. Du Toitskloof Pass was constructed by Italian prisoners of war in the Second World War and still stands today. It is a common passage for Cape Town people to get into the city. Finally, Hugenot Tunnel is the toll tunnel which connects the Cape Town Metropole to the rest of the Western Cape. It was opened in March 1988 after 15 years of planning and excavation.
