CAPE TOWN / TRAIN TOUR / CAPE TOWN TO PRETORIA
The idea of luxury African rail travel conjures up romantic colonial-era visions of opulence and comfort while journeying through ancient lands.

Book Cape Town is proud to be associated with 'the most luxurious train in the world'.

We bring you the Cape Town to Pretoria Journey, which follows The Old Karoo Pioneering Trail as it travels from the fairest Cape through the semi-arid Great Karoo and up to Pretoria in Gauteng, linking South Africa's two capital cities.

The journey takes 48 hours and departs weekly, covering an astonishing 1 600 km of dramatic and diverse South African countryside. Crossing rich grassland and barren semi-desert, travelling over majestic mountain ranges and traversing scenic Winelands, this Cape Railway tour beautifully showcases the land that is known as the 'world in one country'.

Numerous highlights en route include visiting historic villages and mining towns where guests can disembark and experience some of the rich heritage sites through which the railway travels.

The service on board the train is 5-star. The meals are exquisitely prepared by top chefs who conjure up delicious gastronomic faire, based on fresh local produce and traditional South African recipes.

The sleeper coaches contain 3 types of suites, all of which have bar fridges, safes, hairdryers and 24-hour room service.

The Pullman Suites (7m²) have an en suite luxury bathroom with shower and a 'one up one down' bunk bed, or a standard double bed that can be folded into a couch in the daytime.

The Deluxe Suites (11m²) have wooden panelling and period furniture that harks back to Edwardian times, while the air-conditioning and other modern conveniences meet today's most discerning traveller's demands. Double and twin bed options are available with en suite bathrooms, with showers, that blend olde-world charm with modern technology.

For the ultimate in luxury train accommodation there are the Royal Suites which take up half an entire carriage each (172m²) and have a private, elegant lounge plus a full bathroom with Victorian bath and shower.
