Cheetah cubs born at Garden Route Game Lodge

In the early hours of Friday morning our female cheetah Inyanga gave birth to her first litter of 4 cubs. She could not have chosen more challenging conditions as the rain poured down and temperatures dropped to 12 degrees the rangers and wildlife staff at the reserve were extremely concerned for the well being of the newborn cubs. Fortunately the sun came out the next morning which allowed us to get a peak at the new arrivals.

Ranger Diary

In the early hours of Friday morning our female cheetah Inyanga gave birth to her first litter of 4 cubs. She could not have chosen more challenging conditions as the rain poured down and  temperatures dropped to 12 degrees the rangers and wildlife staff at the reserve were extremely concerned for the well being of the newborn cubs. Fortunately the sun came out the next morning which allowed us to get a peak at the new arrivals. The cheetah at Garden Route Game Lodge are fitted with tracking collars enabling the rangers to track them in the wild. Reserve manager Hein Schoeman first became suspicious when the GPS readings from her collar showed that she was staying in one area for  extended periods of time and not utilising the entire reserve for hunting. Garden Route Game Lodge cheetahs made conservation history in September 2007 being the first  cheetahs to return to the area in 120 years . Today, 5 years later we have been rewarded with our first litter of cubs.
