Garden Route Game Lodge, a Western Cape game lodge situated in the heart of the world famous Fynbos Botanical Route, welcomes you to the majestic beauty that fauna and flora has to offer.
Come and view the Big Five at this lodge in a malaria-free environment. The world renowned moderate climate in the Western Cape makes this safari lodge a year-round favourite. The lodge is a mere three hour drive from the city centre of Cape Town, an ideal central game reserve for a day trip or an extended visit to savour the wildlife that existed in herds two hundred years ago.
Due to the over-hunting of many of the animals, the natural biomes of the Western Cape were nearly destroyed. Thanks to the concerted effort of nature reserves such as the Garden Route Game Lodge, this terrible situation is reversing, with free-roaming predators in game reserves a more common site now than ever before. Visitors to the lodge have a choice of accommodation. Sixteen en-suite double rooms in the main building leading on the west facing porch with spectacular African sunsets and a view of the landscape, just steps away from the swimming pool. The rooms are all fully-catered and have DSTV in the bedrooms.

The conservation centre was established in 2002 to raise awareness amongst visitors of the plight of these endangered animals. A percentage of the revenue received from every guest staying at the Lodge is allocated to the purchase of tracking collars for Cheetahs in the wild.

The Kruger National Park has an overabundance of elephants and, instead of culling them, Garden Route Game Lodge offered to take the elephants on. They are both orphans from previous culls, which are now banned. The majestic animals survive today on the plains of the fynbos as they once did over two hundred years ago.

The only way to get around the Garden Route Game Lodge is via the hosted drives, leaving in the morning and the evening. The guides are very knowledgable of the wildlife, location and local African folklore. The reserve houses giraffe, white rhino, lion, elephant, buffalo, kudu, zebra, wildebeest and 24 more species that make up 400 animals of the reserve.

On the 31st of March 2000, seven lions from Shamwari game reserve came to the Garden Route Game Lodge for their continued protection and rehabilitation. The story of their survival and sanctuary is one that will move every guest.

Alternatively guests can choose to stay over in the individual log-cabins which have been adorned in a blend of colonial African and modern western décor, all linked together by a boardwalk in a valley overgrown with Aloe and fynbos. The cabins have DSTV in each bedroom as well as tea and coffee facilities.
Garden Route Game Lodge adheres to optimal conservation practices to create a balanced Eco-system.
Location:
Situated in the Western Cape, this safari lodge has a moderate climate with little rain fall compared to other areas in the Cape. Ideal for extended vacations away from the hustle and bustle of the city centres of Mosslebay and Cape Town. However, getting to the game lodge poses no problem as it is less than 80 kilometres from the nearest national airport and all of the roads leading to the reserve are excellent.
Safari Features:
The reintroduction of game to this area and the eradication of alien plant-species in favour of indigenous fynbos are the two main concerns of the Garden Route Game Reserve. Already the Big 5 - rhino, lion leopard, elephant and buffalo - have been introduced and a successful breeding scheme is under way to increase the numbers of antelope species. If the timing is right, the elusive Cape Mountain Leopard can be spotted within the reserve.
