The Cape has many off-road and 4x4 trails available for those who love to indulge in a spot of ‘Bundu Bashing’. There are plenty of car hire companies which offer luxury 4x4s, fully equipped with roof-top tents and everything else you may need on your off-road adventure.
If you are unfamiliar with driving a 4x4 these companies can also arrange a lesson or two in order for you to become familiar with the vehicle so that you can get the most out of it while being safe.
Route 62 is a popular tourist route which meanders from Cape Townup to Port Elizabeth – a far more scenic option than the N2 Highway.There are a number of 4x4 trails available along the route.

The Leopard Trail 4x4 Route - Bonnievale: Runs along the slopes of the Langeberg mountains overlooking the Breed River Valley. Wine Tasting is also an appealing option while in the region.
Hessequas 4x4 Trail - Bonnievale: A 13 km trail which takes almost a full day to complete, this trails features waterholes, rocky climbs, sand, river beds and more.
Kliphuiskloof 4x4 Route - Ceres: The circular route of 70km crosses rivers which may be in flood at certain times of the year, and features exceptionally steep rocky and sandy stretches. There are a good number of campsites along the route.
