This tour is ideal for a day out on one of our lean and mean Harley-Davidsons.
Make sure you plan on taking the trip in whale season (May to September most years) to give yourself the best opportunity of viewing these ocean giants that visit the Cape each year in calving season.
Departing from Cape Town, you’ll take the N2 and Sir Lowry's Pass into the rolling landscape of the Overberg region. Then head for the southernmost tip of Africa, Cape d'Agulhas, where we encourage you to visit the fascinating Lighthouse Museum and learn how so many have tried to make this treacherous stretch of coastline safer for passing ships.
Next, negotiate the Akkedisberg Pass. The landscape changes dramatically as seemingly-eternal sun-whitened sand dunes stretch to the sea. Numerous sailors have died along this desolate yet beautiful coastal region.
In the charming town of Bredasdorp you can learn more about the history of the deadly coastline that claimed so many lives, at a local museum.
If you prefer to try a little personal danger to spice things up, an optional shark viewing experience is available in Gansbaai.
Next, after a long morning’s ride, we break for lunch in Hermanus. This pristine seaside town boasts the best land-based whale viewing opportunities in the world!
Lunch is a treat – not just for the delectable cuisine but also for the unique atmosphere and unsurpassable views offered at the Bintang's Cave Restaurant.
Next you have the chance to do some boat-based whale watching - watching our Southern Right Whales (world's largest up to 85.000 kg) at the closest range legally allowed. This boat trip lasts for 2-hour, leaving at 15h00 (in season only).
The day is ended off superbly with a ride through part of the world's richest floral kingdom. The coastal road past Kleinmond, Pringle Bay, Betty's Bay and Gordon’s Bay is so beautiful, you’ll have a hard time keeping your eyes on the road. Sea views on one side and spectacular mountain views on the other vie for attention. |
