An adventure of a lifetime awaits the brave souls who sign up for this awesome 3-day trek in the rugged Hex River Mountains of the Western Cape.
The journey incorporates a ride in an ex-Army 4x4 Truck to a height of 1920m above sea level, and includes a canyon descent with over 17 long abseils, a pool jump and many ‘bum slides’!
Day One
We depart Cape Town and travel to Matroosberg Reserve, passing through the historical towns of Tulbagh and Ceres and traversing the awesome Bain’s Kloof Pass. We spend the first afternoon at the Reserve perfecting abseil techniques in order to be prepared for the epic adventure ahead. The evening is passed pleasantly with a traditional South African braai (BBQ), and we fall asleep under the African night sky...
Day Two
Be prepared for an early start! We clamber onto the old Military 4x4 and travel to the start of the canyon at 1920m. A hearty breakfast sets us ready for the descent into the canyon. Soon we begin down the series of abseils - over cliffs and down waterfalls! We hike along the waterway to the campsite where we spend the second night sleeping beneath the stars.
Day Three
Another early morning sees us heading into the narrow part of the gorge after breakfast. Expect more exciting abseils. As we follow the waterway down. You’ll get to ‘bum slide’ a fair amount and there’s also a low pool jump. We eventually reach and follow a flat trail out to a hut. From here we hike to the vehicle and head back to Matroosberg Reserve by late afternoon/early evening.
