Botany fundis and anyone who appreciates floral displays in the wild will be amazed at the annual spring flowers in the Yzerfontein surrounds. Entire plains become a magic carpet fit for Aladdin, with multiple hues and species of daisies and other local flowers scattered as far as the eye can see.
The bird life along the coast is rich and varied, especially in the Langebaan lagoon region. The West Coast National Park is filled with countless birds – marine birds, wetland birds and more. The Park has no predators to threaten open bikes and is ideal for sidecar touring.
Another town renowned for its annual floral feast for the eyes is Darling. This town has plenty to offer the visitor. Its charm is largely due to the rich Afrikaaner heritage and history which feels as alive today as ever before. The famous South African comedian and satirist Pieter Dirk Uys helped put the town on the map when he opened his successful theatre and restaurant at the Darling train station. Enjoy a traditional meal followed by a clever, witty and thought-provoking show that will give you a true taste of local humour and politics blended.
